South Lawn Project at the University of Virginia
This 105,000 sq.ft facility will house the Colleges of History, Religion and Politics. This classroom and faculty structure continues the architectural theme that Thomas Jefferson began with his design for the academical village consisting of the Lawn, the Rotunda and the Ranges - one of the most beloved places in American campus architecture.
glaserworks was selected by Moore Ruble Yudell Architects to act as the local architect throughout design and construction documentation, to coordinate consultants, and to act as the lead architect during construction.
The new scheme embraces not only the University's unique architectural history, but also acknowledges the freed slave "Canada" neighborhood to the east and preserves the historic Foster Homestead burial site directly adjacent to the building.
Sustainable Features:
-green roofs
-site hydrology
-significant storm water run off reduction while providing dynamic landscapes
-campus extrusion: "green" bridge crossing busy road
-landscape path: planned continuation of the grounds to reach the buildings
