Cincinnati's urban core is shaped by topography that forms a basin. In this basin lays: the Downtown Central Business District, Queensgate, the West End, and the historic Over-the-Rhine (OTR) neighborhoods. The northernmost portion, now known as the Brewery District, was settled later than the southern portion. Unlike the rest of OTR, the Brewery District has a mix of late 19th Century and early 20th century buildings that includes large manufacturing and warehouse facilities, large and small apartment buildings, grand single family houses, modest churches and Findlay Market. Many of the buildings in this area were built to house the manufacturing or warehousing of beer. While much of this area is vacant, some homes, businesses and manufacturing facilities still thrive.

glaserworks met with community stakeholders to find the collective vision for the future of the neighborhood. We discovered that the community wanted to fill its buildings with a vibrant mix of uses. The community wanted to build on glaserworks' renovation to historic Findlay Market and re-develop the delapidated housing surrounding it. The community wanted to keep its workforce housing stock, entice new office development, and encourage new (and maintain existing) manufacturing uses and the valuable jobs those businesses have. The community also wanted a new single family townhouse development on the hillside which forms the northern border of the basin.
