glaserworks was one of the key creators of, and sponsors of, Cincinnati's recent conference reviewing Form Based Codes. Form Based Codes are land development regulations that govern both private and public property; they are a combination of a Zoning Code and Subdivision Regulations that enable communities, developers, planners and governments to build neighborhoods of character based on form.
To see the Cincinnati Transect, an urban design tool for measuring the scale of places, see: The Cincinnati Transect.
For information about the potential for Form Based Codes around the Cincinnati area, see the web site: www.cincicharacter.org.

On August 2nd Paul Duffy was accredited by the US Green Building Council as a LEED 2.1 Accredited Professional.
Paul Duffy is a principal and the chief information technology officer for the firm. Paul served as the project architect for the University of Cincinnati's first LEED certified building the Joseph A. Steger Student Life Center.
Currently, Paul is serving as the principal in charge of the Harold C. Schott Education Center, a demonstration project at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens.
From the beginning, the center has been geared toward sustainability and constructed in accordance to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards. In the new building, energy efficiency is accomplished by the use of photovoltaic solar panels on the roof, reflective roofing materials and the greenhouse, not to mention thicker insulation and larger windows than the average building.
A 20kW photovoltaic array helps reduce the reliance on grid-power and waterless urinals and low-flow plumbing fixtures reduce water consumption. The interior finishes and materials are recyclable, rapidly renewable and low-VOC emitting. The roofing materials are high-emissivity / Energy Star rated and the exterior lighting is dark-sky compliant with automated interior lighting. Furnishings are Green-friendly.
Paul's interest in sustainable buildings is just one of the areas in which he expresses his talents. He is responsible for leading the firm's initiatives in information technology. He has even been known to build his own computers. Paul is an expert in crafting buildings.
For the last three years Paul has lead school planning teams and consultants to produce the Cheviot and Clifton Fairview Elementary Schools.
Congratulations, Paul. We are blessed to have you.
